We made some delicious stone soup today. Thank-you for sending all of the ingredients. We followed the story, first adding the water and then 3 large, smooth stones. Then we seasoned the water and added all of our vegetables and pasta.

We estimated and then measured the circumference of all of our pumpkins. We each had a piece of string to mark the circumference of each pumpkin. We were all very close!

On Thursday, November 20 we will be going to see a performance by the Youth Ballet Company of Saskatchewan. We will be seeing a performance titled ASCENDING: MOVING ART.

One dance we will be seeing is "Ballet for Life". This dance is quite philosophical and emotional. "Ballet for Life" was created by Maurice Bejart in honour of several of his friends who had recently died, from sickness or accidents. One of these friends was Freddie Mercury - the singer from Queen. Both the dance and the music are about life and death.

We have been listening to music from Queen. The songs that are used in the performance are:

Here is a guided reading group working with Mrs. B. She is our student support services teacher. All groups rotate between Mrs. Macey, Mrs.B, and Ms.F.

We are very lucky to have Mrs.C come to work with guided reading groups for half of our guided reading period on days 1&2. This frees Mrs.Macey up to do one-on-one reading and running records with each child.

GUIDED READING BOOKS

Thank-you for your support at home. Please continue to check your child's bookbag every evening for a book or books to read. Spending time reading every evening makes a huge difference in your child's reading growth and development.
Re-reading familiar books is also great practise and helps in developing a sight vocabulary.
Please make sure all books are in the bookbag every day. Do not take them out! Please also leave any paper books in the bag. We use these books daily in our guided reading groups. When there gets to be too many paper books, I will let your child know which ones can be taken out.

First we got a feel for how much 1 gram and 1 kg were. Then we estimated and finally weighed them.

We know that Annie has curly red hair, she likes her dog Sandy, and she is an orphan.

Here ia lesson where the book was "MY DOG". We used the sticky notes from our toolboxes to find the words that showed what the dog was doing.

Here is our "ACTIVE READER'S TOOL BOX". We use these in guided reading for many purposes.

This is the inside of the tool box. It contains an assortment of sticky notes to use when reading. It is kept in our bookbags in a ziploc bag with our extra stickies.

Here is a folder we use in Guided Reading. We read for many purposes and sometimes we make predictions about the material we are going to read. To help reinforce reading for meaning we make a prediction on a sticky note. We then go and read, and if we were right, we move our sticky over!
